Kevin had some business meetings in Chicago this past week. So, we decided to purchase a flight for my arrival to meet him Friday afternoon... after all his meetings the day before concluded. We paid for some extra nights in Trump International Hotel & Tower (the 2nd tallest building in the U.S.). We stayed on the 17th floor, though. The hotel was phenomenal and so modern! Our room/suite was huge... it seemed more like a suite at a resort. It had a mini kitchen, walk in/sit down shower, built-in tv in our bathroom mirror, walk-in closet, and so much more. The spa at the Trump Tower was beyond impressive... it overlooked the entire city of Chicago (surrounded by windows). You could see Lake Michigan and the cityscape. The service at the hotel was excellent, as well. We will go back!
Kevin (being the traveler/explorer that he is) did his research and purchased tickets for us to explore all the magnificent skyscraper hotels and learn about their history through the Chicago Boat Architectural Tour. It was a great time (even though it was freezing) learning about the history behind the Architects and their influences in designing such beautiful buildings. So interesting! As I suspected (after already having visiting Paris and Manhattan), the buildings had some of the same architects that designed the reputable landmarks in both Paris, France and Manhattan, NY. If you combine New York, Paris and Italy, then you have a Chicago! A must see for all!
Our friend Robert and his girlfriend, Alexa, were also in Chicago (they stayed a couple more days than us). Robert shared his Chicago must-see with us. So, we went to "The Second City" Comedy show by the river on Satuday night. This particular comedy club is where many of your favorite comedians from Saturday Night Live (SNL) got their start and recognition. It was quite funny, however, parts of it were too desperate. LOL I liked experiencing it, but probably won't go back.
Our last day there, we explored the rest of Chicago (since we had already shopped most of the shops in the inner city). We went through the Millenium Park and the Ampitheater. We checked out the Chicago Zoo (it was okay, I've been to better... but it was free admission), downtown near Wrigley Stadium and Wrigley Stadium itself. We checked out the Chicago Botanic Garden. It was amazing how many flowers/plants were in this facility. So lovely. We had lunch at this little hole in the wall, The Pasta Bowl, and it was the most delicious and reasonably priced Italian food... they, also, had the best sangrias!! Yummy!
There was a limo reserved for us to head to the airport at the end of our adventures in Chicago. Not too shabby and such a fun weekend away. You should definitely spend at least one weekend in your life in Chicago... such a beautiful city!
